Tour Plan
Fly to Axum (approx. 2 hours). Transfer to hotel. Afternoon visit to the Northern Stelae Field, the great obelisks of Axum, including the 33-metre Obelisk of Axum returned from Rome in 2008. Visit the Ezana Stone, a trilingual inscription marking Ethiopia's conversion to Christianity in the 4th century. Overnight Axum.
Morning visit to the Church of Saint Mary of Zion complex, the most sacred site in Ethiopia, guarded by a single monk who is its permanent keeper. Visit the adjacent museum housing royal crowns, gold crosses, and ancient manuscripts. Afternoon visit to Dungur Palace and the Tombs of Kings Kaleb and Gebre Meskel. Overnight Axum.
Morning visit to the local market and optional visit to the Axum Archaeological Museum. Early afternoon transfer to Axum Airport for flight back to Addis Ababa.
